it's a cold day...
...on the blog when I'm quoting Ani, but here you have it. Ms. Not-Angry-Anymore is talking about her -- not my -- parents:

She taught me how to wage a cold war with quiet charm
but I just want to walk through my life unarmed,
to accept and just get by like my father learned to do
without all the accepting and getting by that got my father through.

Once in a while I find myself wincing my way through an Ani album, just thinking she's so god-awful and annoying and why am I even listening to this, and then she'll suddenly come out with one little thought that totally does it for me. Like that one.
