remember when he burned his hand?

I just finished reading Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously. The author embarks on a project to cook all of the recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a year; she's funny and likeable and a bit of a disaster, and reminds me enough of Elizabeth Gilbert (whom Julie apparently knows and thanks in the acknowledgements) that I wonder if they've started a new genre: self-deprecating memoirs of entirely relatable people taking on some kind of structured project to help them through a rough time.

She's probably someone I would like in real life anyway, and then I found her Powell's interview. When asked which fictional character she would like to date, she comes up with... Johnny Tremain. Ha. What a great answer. I think my sixth-grade self would have totally backed her up on that one.

So, did you like the book? I've been thinking about getting it from the library.

Burning his hand in the molten silver is the ONLY thing I remember about Johnny. Did I ever actually read the book?

I TOTALLY remember the scene in the movie where Johnny Tremain burned his hand. It was scary.

"It's a strong old tree,
It's a proud old tree,/
and we are the sons!
Yes, we are the sons!
The Sons of Liberty."

I was just wondering why I had such a completely clear vision in my head of the scene where he burns his hand in the silversmithing shop, and then the Sons of Liberty song (which: AWESOME) answered the question. We definitely read the book and watched the movie in elementary school. I don't think it was with Mrs. W.Penny, Hefk, so not sure if you did or not.

Kelly: I really liked the Julie and Julia book. Definitely worth getting from the library.
