Liz Phair's "Johnny Sunshine" has been stuck in my head for a week. All day, every day:
You took the car
It was my favorite one
A little white Dart
And drove it to Idaho
You took the horse
It was a thoroughbred
Saddled it up
Out on the interstate
I'll skip the verse about the cat and the antifreeze, but that's basically it. The song really has no direct relevance to my life, but apparently my subconscious has other ideas. And now that I really think about it, the song might just represent general edginess about multiple topics, which IS sort of how I'm feeling, so maybe there is a connection.
But for the first time in a while tonight, I took a quick break from being tense and sat across a table from my friends and drank some and ate some and laughed a lot and threw some shredded carrots at Debbie and felt so much better. H*alth Bar's crappy generic techno drowned out the song for a while — it's back now, but at least now I remember why I liked it in the first place. Thanks to all of you who have been helping me be a little more sane recently. I like you too.
